Important Notice
PLEASE READ THIS DISCLAIMER CAREFULLY BEFORE USING SURACODE.
Suracode is a communication and verification tool. It is designed to help families protect themselves against impersonation scams, including those using artificial intelligence to clone voices. However, there are important limitations you must understand.
1. Not a Replacement for Emergency Services
Suracode is NOT a substitute for emergency services.
- In any emergency, call 999 (UK), 911 (US), 000 (AU), or your local emergency number
- Do not rely on this App in life-threatening situations
- The App does not contact emergency services
- The App does not track your location for emergency purposes
2. No Guarantee of Scam Prevention
Suracode cannot guarantee protection against all scams or fraud.
What the App Does
- Provides a shared code word for your family
- Syncs the code word across devices in real-time
- Helps you verify that a caller is who they claim to be
- Provides scam alerts from official sources (NCSC, Action Fraud, FCA, etc.)
- Offers a scam pattern checker to compare suspicious messages against known indicators (Pro feature)
- Enables family voting on suspicious content (Pro feature)
- Provides daily gestures to verify video callers (Pro feature)
What the App Cannot Do
- Prevent all scams or impersonation attempts
- Guarantee that scammers will not find ways to bypass verification
- Protect against scams that do not involve voice impersonation
- Detect all scams with the pattern checker
- Guarantee accuracy of scam alerts
- Replace good judgement and caution
Why This Matters
Scammers are constantly evolving their techniques. While a family code word is recommended by security experts (including the FBI, Which?, and the National Cybersecurity Alliance) as a useful layer of protection, it is not foolproof.
Examples of scenarios where the code word may not help:
- A scammer who has already obtained your code word through other means
- Social engineering attacks that do not require voice verification
- Phishing emails or text messages
- Scams targeting online accounts or passwords
- In-person impersonation
Always exercise caution:
- Be suspicious of unexpected requests for money
- Verify requests through multiple channels (call back on a known number)
- Never share banking details or PINs with anyone
- Report suspected scams to Action Fraud (UK): https://www.actionfraud.police.uk
3. Scam Pattern Checker Limitations (Pro Feature)
The scam pattern checker uses on-device text recognition (OCR) to compare screenshots against a database of known scam indicators.
What You Should Know
- Privacy: Screenshots are processed entirely on your device — images are never uploaded to our servers
- Informational only: Results indicate possible scam patterns, not definitive proof
- False positives: Legitimate messages may be flagged as suspicious
- False negatives: Some scams may not be detected, especially new or sophisticated techniques
- Pattern-based: The checker compares against known indicators (urgency, financial requests, impersonation, etc.) but cannot understand context
- Not a substitute: Always verify suspicious messages through official channels, regardless of results
Scam Patterns Checked
The checker compares against these common indicator categories:
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Urgency Pressure | "Act now", "expires today", "urgent" |
| Financial Request | "Bank account", "gift card", "transfer money" |
| Impersonation | "Amazon", "HMRC", "your bank" |
| Suspicious Links | "Click here", "verify your account" |
| Personal Info Request | "Password", "PIN", "verification code" |
| Threats | "Arrest", "legal action", "account closed" |
| Too Good To Be True | "Winner", "lottery", "congratulations" |
| Secrecy | "Don't tell anyone", "keep this secret" |
Remember: Scammers are sophisticated. A message that passes the checker may still be a scam. A message that fails may be legitimate. Use your judgement.
4. Scam Alerts Limitations
Scam alerts are sourced from official UK, US, and AU organisations including:
- National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC)
- Action Fraud
- Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)
- Which?
- UK Finance
- Age UK
- Citizens Advice
- FTC (US)
- Scamwatch (AU)
- And other trusted sources
Important Disclaimers
- Third-party content: We aggregate alerts from external sources and cannot guarantee their accuracy
- Not comprehensive: Alerts may not cover all active scams in your area
- Timeliness: There may be delays between a scam emerging and an alert being published
- Caching: Alerts are cached locally on your device for offline access and refresh when you're online
- Regional: Alerts are filtered by region (UK, US, AU) based on your device locale
- Informational only: Alerts are for awareness purposes and do not constitute advice
5. Family Voting Limitations (Pro Feature)
The family voting feature allows you to ask family members whether they think a message is a scam.
How It Works
- You share a screenshot with family members externally (via WhatsApp, text, email, or in person)
- You create a vote in the App
- Family members vote: Scam / Not Sure / Safe
- You see the results
Important Disclaimers
- External sharing: Screenshots are shared outside the App — we do not store or transmit them
- Opinions only: Votes represent your family's opinions, not verified facts
- Not expert advice: Family members are not fraud experts (unless they happen to be!)
- Your decision: The final decision about how to respond remains your responsibility
- No liability: We are not liable for decisions made based on family votes
6. Deepfake Video Call Check Limitations (Pro Feature)
The deepfake video call check provides a daily rotating gesture that family members can use to verify each other on video calls.
How It Works
- Each day, a different gesture is shown to all family members (e.g., "Look up, then down" or "Touch your right ear")
- On a video call, ask the other person to perform today's gesture
- If they can do it correctly and naturally, they're more likely to be real
Important Disclaimers
- One layer only: This is one verification method, not a guarantee against deepfakes
- Advancing technology: Deepfake AI is improving rapidly; future technology may be able to perform gestures in real-time
- Predictability: Gestures rotate daily, but the pattern is the same for all users — sophisticated attackers may find ways to predict them
- User error: Family members may forget the gesture or perform it incorrectly
- Not foolproof: Always combine with other verification (ask questions only the real person would know)
- Trust your instincts: If something feels wrong on a video call, it probably is
- No verification capability: The App displays the gesture to you — it does not record, monitor, or verify whether any person performed the gesture. It cannot confirm or deny anyone's identity on a video call.
7. Evidentiary Limitations and Anti-Fraud Provision
IMPORTANT: No output of this App — including risk levels, votes, gestures, audit records, or any other feature — is intended for use as evidence, proof, supporting material, or due diligence in any legal, regulatory, insurance, banking, financial, or dispute resolution proceeding of any kind.
This applies to every feature:
-
Scam Checker results — A low-risk or no-risk result does not prove that a message is safe, legitimate, or free from fraud. It cannot be used as evidence of due diligence, verification, or good faith in any proceeding or claim — whether against Dignity Labs Ltd, a bank, an insurer, or any other party.
-
Family vote results — A vote outcome does not prove consensus, expert opinion, or verification of any message. It cannot be used as evidence of any of these things.
-
Deepfake gesture check — The gesture check does not prove that a video caller's identity has been verified. The App cannot confirm or deny anyone's identity. It cannot be used as evidence of identity verification.
-
Family code word — Successful or unsuccessful use of a code word does not prove that any person's identity has been confirmed or denied. It cannot be used as evidence of identity verification.
-
Audit logs — Logs maintained by the App are for internal purposes only. They are not designed or intended as forensic, legal, or regulatory evidence.
Using any App output in the ways described in this section is expressly prohibited under the Terms of Service and is a material breach of those Terms.
Dignity Labs Ltd is not liable for any consequence arising from anyone using any App output in any proceeding, claim, or dispute.
8. Technical Limitations
Internet Connectivity
- The App requires an internet connection for code word sync
- Offline access is limited to the last synced code word
- Delays may occur in poor network conditions
- Scam alerts require connectivity to refresh (cached alerts available offline)
Device Compatibility
- We cannot guarantee compatibility with all devices
- Older operating systems may have limited functionality
- Some features may not work on all devices
- OCR accuracy may vary by device
Push Notifications
- Notification delivery depends on:
- Your device settings

- Operating system limitations
- Apple/Google notification services
- We cannot guarantee instant delivery of notifications
Biometric Authentication
- Biometric features (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint) depend on your device
- We are not responsible for failures in device biometric systems
- Always set a PIN as a backup
9. Data and Encryption
End-to-End Encryption
Your code word is encrypted on your device before being transmitted. We cannot decrypt it. However:
- Encryption is only as secure as your device and PIN
- If someone gains access to your unlocked device, they can see your code word
- We cannot recover your code word if you lose access
- We cannot verify the security of your device
Screenshots and Scam Checker
- Screenshots processed by the pattern checker never leave your device
- Text extracted from images is not stored or transmitted
- We cannot see what you scan
Data Loss
- We are not responsible for data loss due to device failure, theft, or damage
- We are not responsible for data loss due to user error (e.g., leaving a family group)
- We recommend keeping your code word memorable but secure

Summary
| Point | Summary |
|---|---|
| Is this a security guarantee? | No. It's one layer of protection, not a complete solution. |
| Can the pattern checker detect all scams? | No. It compares against known indicators but may miss sophisticated scams or flag legitimate messages. |
| Are scam alerts always accurate? | No. They come from trusted sources but we can't guarantee accuracy or completeness. |
| Should I trust family votes? | Use them as input, not as the final decision. Your family aren't fraud experts. |
| Does the gesture check stop all deepfakes? | No. It helps but sophisticated AI may bypass it in future. |
| Can I use results as evidence? | No. No output of the App is intended for use in any legal, insurance, banking, or dispute proceeding. |
| Should I still be cautious? | Yes. Always verify unexpected requests through multiple channels. |
| Does this replace emergency services? | No. Call 999/911/000 in emergencies. |
| What if I'm still scammed? | Report to Action Fraud (UK), FTC (US), Scamwatch (AU), or Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (Canada) and your bank. The App reduces risk but cannot eliminate it. |
| Who is responsible for security? | Both of us — we provide the tool, you use it wisely. |
| Where is the App available? | UK, EU/EEA, US, Australia, and Canada. |
Remember: A family code word is recommended by security experts as a valuable protection against AI voice scams. Suracode makes this easy and adds extra tools like scam pattern checking and alerts. But no tool can replace vigilance, good judgement, and open communication with your family.
If in doubt, hang up and call back on a number you know.
